Biden says Trump should not receive intelligence briefings due to his ‘erratic behavior’

President Joe Biden said that former President Donald Trump should not receive intelligence briefings, although they have normally been given to other former presidents.

Biden told CBS News in an interview that Trump was “unfit to be president” and his “erratic behavior” is the reason he should have access to the country’s confidential information.

“I don’t think so,” said Biden when asked if Trump should receive intelligence instructions. “Because of his erratic behavior, unrelated to the insurrection.”

“You called it an existential threat. You called him dangerous. You called him reckless, ”CBS News’ Norah O” Donnell told Biden in a clip released Friday.

“Yes, I do. And I believe,” Biden replied.

Biden added: “I just think there is no need for him to have the intelligence briefings. What is the point of giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have, other than the fact that he can slip and say something?”

In 2018, President Trump withdrew security clearance from former CIA director John Brennan, which sparked a storm of criticism that the president was punishing high-profile critics.

Biden, a former Delaware senator, did not comment on how he would vote on Trump’s Senate impeachment trial for allegedly inciting the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill, but said he is focused on bringing his aid package to Congress, including a new one. round of stimulus checks and increase in the minimum wage.

“Look, I ran like hell to beat him because I didn’t think he was fit to be president. I saw what everyone watched, what happened when that crew broke into the United States Congress. But I’m not in the Senate right now. I will let the Senate make that decision, “he said.
