Anas Sarwar promises to “rebuild” Scottish work by being elected new party leader
Anas Sarwar was elected Scottish labor leader and promised in his victory speech to “rebuild” the party before turning his attention to the country. Winning an early leadership election ten weeks before Holyrood’s election in May, Sarwar, MSP of Glasgow, beat his only rival candidate, Monica Lennon, with 57.6% of the vote. The dispute was announced after the resignation of Richard Leonard, the former Scottish labor leader, in January. Sarwar, described as the first Muslim leader of a major political party in the United Kingdom, now faces the task of rebuilding a party that ranks third in the polls before the election of Holyrood.
