Biden promotes faith as a unifier at the National Prayer Breakfast

President Joe Biden defended faith on Thursday as the recipe for “dark and dark times”, said the nation is suffering in the midst of an ongoing pandemic and the accompanying economic consequences.

“Now, I have participated in many of these prayer breakfasts over the years with a nation at war and struggle and strife, a nation of peace and prosperity, a nation that is always in prayer. What we know this time is different,” Biden told the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, listing events from last year, including the death pandemic, severe weather, high unemployment and long lines at food banks. “For so many in our nation, this is a dark, gloomy time. So where do we turn?

Biden, the second Catholic to serve as president, emphasized political unity at a time when many are in need. “These are not Democrats or Republicans starving in our nation. They are our American compatriots, fellow human beings. They are not Democrats or Republicans without health care in America. They are our American compatriots.”
