President Biden on Tuesday night paid tribute to the late United States Capitol policeman, Brian Sicknick, who was mortally wounded in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

The remains of the dead officer were transported in an urn to the Rotunda on Tuesday night.
The president and the first lady, both wearing face masks, stopped in front of the urn for several moments and placed their hands over their hearts. Biden made the sign of the cross.

Sicknick was mortally wounded in the Capitol violence on January 6, when a crowd of pro-Trump protesters stormed the building in an effort to challenge the results of the presidential election and the counting of votes from the Electoral College. The policeman was among five people who lost their lives as a result of the violence.

Sicknick’s remains will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Sicknick served in the New Jersey Air National Guard before joining the Capitol Police.
Sicknick is one of only five individuals who paid tribute to Rotunda. Among them are two Capitol officers, Officer Jacob Chestnut and Detective John Gibson, who were killed in the line of duty in 1998.
