Biden holds his first press conference after breaking the 100-year record without a

President Biden will hold his first press conference at the White House on March 25, said his press secretary, Jen Psaki, on Tuesday.

Biden broke a record of more than a century without a press conference as the new president, drawing much criticism from the media.

“President Biden will give a formal press conference on the afternoon of Thursday, March 25,” said Psaki in a statement.

It is unclear how many reporters will be able to attend the event, as well as whether Biden will call from a prepared list of journalists.

Former President Donald Trump often offered long and combative press conferences with journalists. Biden, by contrast, answers a few questions from reporters at events.

When Biden responds to reporters on the White House lawn or in the Oval Office, his responses are usually brief.

Biden, 78, is famous for his verbal gaffes that sometimes divert his attention from his political agenda. For example, Psaki spent the past week cleaning up Biden’s recent improvised remark to an Indian-American scientist that immigrants from India are “dominating the country”.

Psaki indicated at a press conference that it is possible that Biden will receive a list of approved journalists at his first press conference.

The White House press office severely restricted access for journalists in January, when Biden took office – citing the COVID-19 pandemic – and asked some reporters at recent press conferences to send questions in advance.
