Meagher started in politics doing press and communication work for former MP Lois Capps (D-Calif.). He served as a senior communications consultant for the Democratic parties in the states of Colorado and Montana. He also worked for Senate Jon Tester’s (D-Mont.) Re-election campaign in 2018.
In addition to the possible hiring of Meagher, Andrew Bates must also go to the White House as another assistant press secretary, according to the two people familiar with the matter. Bates would do this as soon as he finishes his communication work for the transition, where he focuses on confirmation of nominees for the cabinet by the Senate. Bates declined to comment.
A much loved North Carolina native, Bates worked as a rapid response director for Biden’s campaign. He served in the Obama White House communications store and was also a press secretary to the U.S. Trade Representative before serving as North Carolina’s communications director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. He is also an alumnus of the American Bridge 21st Century Democratic super PAC.
Although Bates started working in Democratic politics during his time at North Carolina State University, he is alone in his family working in the political sphere. He told POLITICO in a question and answer session last month that he was “the only member of my family who is not a professional classical musician. I thought it would end on a high note. Take it? 🙂 ”
