Biden administration should start sending vaccines to health centers

The allocation of the health center comes while the federal government is increasing the number of vaccine doses sent to the states by 5 percent, to 11 million doses per week. White House officials informed governors of the increase during a call on Tuesday.

Why it matters: Health centers serve nearly 30 million patients a year. The facilities generally serve medically underserved populations and can be central centers of primary care for rural areas.

The CDC released data last week showing major racial and ethnic disparities in the country’s vaccination effort, and the Biden government has promised improvements. In the first month of vaccination, more than 60% of those inoculated were white, compared to just over 5% who were black and 11.5% who were Hispanic.
