The Academy wrote: “Congratulations Winner of Best Music Video – ‘BROWN SKIN GIRL’ @Beyonce #BlueIvy @wizkidayo Sparkles #GRAMMYs.” The track and accompanying video were part of Beyoncé’s ‘Lion King’ album, ‘The Gift’ – and yes, Blue DOES has a verse there.
She appears throughout the video next to her mother, but in the end … Blue opens the other, almost identical to the introduction and chorus … “Girl with brown skin // Her skin like pearls // The best thing about o mundo // I would never trade you for anyone else, singing. “
It’s a small contribution, but it counts … and Blue is even a prominent name in music. So, yes … she also gets credit, and just as importantly, she also gets a statuette – joining her parents, who have dozens of Grammys among them. Now, it’s a family affair!
At the age of 9, Blue becomes one of the youngest artists to have the honor given to her. In 2002, the musical group The Peasall Sisters won a Grammy for Best Album for the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” to which they contributed in “In the Highways”.
The youngest of these three sisters, Leah, was 7 when she recorded and 8 when she and her other two brothers won. Still, quite impressive for Blue … congratulations !!!
