Beyoncé Knowles-Carter’s initiative to provide financial aid to Texans affected by the unprecedented winter storm ended after an “overwhelming response”.

On Friday, Houston native Beyoncé announced that she has joined Adidas to offer financial assistance to people affected by the extreme climate in Texas.

Beyoncé’s charity foundation, Beygood, said it was working with the German nonprofit clothing company Bread of Life Inc to offer up to $ 1,000 in aid to needy Texans.

People affected by extreme weather conditions and consequent power cuts can request a one-time payment using the Disaster Relief Assistance Request Form.

There were so many candidates in the first 24 hours, however, that the application process had to be closed.

The registration page cites an “overwhelming response” as the reason for suspending submissions. More than 130,000 people have submitted applications, Beyoncé’s aide told ABC13 Eyewitness News.

The extreme winter has left millions of Texas residents without heat, water or energy. Half a million Texans were still without power on Thursday morning,

Experts say dozens of deaths could be related to the storm, according to The Texas Tribune.

One county in Texas reported at least 10 deaths from hypothermia due to freezing temperatures.
