Beverly Hills Eatery reportedly planning NYE ‘Speakeasy’ indoor party attracts police interest – NBC Los Angeles

City officials hope to end plans for a famous Beverly Hills restaurant for a New Year’s Eve dinner, which would violate county health orders that prohibit in-person dining amid the recent surge in coronavirus cases.

La Scala, a gourmet Italian restaurant at 434 N. Canon Dr., reportedly put the invitations in bags to gauge their customers’ interest at a “clandestine” style party, but when the news spread on social media, Beverly Hills employees came in.

“The city made direct contact with representatives from La Scala (on December 24) to confirm the conditions of the County Health Order, ” said Keith Sterling, Beverly Hills Public Information officer.

“We understand that this is an incredibly difficult time for all of our businesses, however, the County Order currently prohibits indoor and outdoor dining, including in the city of Beverly Hills.”

City police also said they were aware of the plans.

“Thank you for scheduling the BHPD. The Beverly Hills code application is aware of and will take care of this matter,” the department tweeted on Friday.

Attempts to contact La Scala for comment on Saturday were unsuccessful.

A copy of the invitation posted on Twitter, written in cursive, says: “Welcome back to the Prohibition of the 1920s. … We are currently accepting reservations for New Year’s Eve dinner. Inside.

“If this is something you are interested in, let us know as soon as possible. If there is interest, we will contact you to guarantee the reservation. Keep it discreet, but tell all your friends.”
