Bettor bets $ 2.3 million on Super Bowl loser Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The biggest bet reported in the Super Bowl LV so far is the underdog Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Thursday night, a bettor in Nevada placed a $ 2.3 million bet on Bucs +3.5 (-115) with BetMGM sports betting. If Tampa Bay covers the spread against the Kansas City Chiefs, the bettor would earn $ 2 million net.

According to company spokeswoman Elisa Richardson, the bet was placed on the BetMGM mobile app and is the biggest Super Bowl bet any US sportsbook reported on Friday morning.

With most of the initial action being the Chiefs favorites, the big bet on the Buccaneers was a welcome sight for BetMGM.

“This was a bet we were very happy to receive,” Jason Scott, vice president of trading at BetMGM, told ESPN. “We had already written several other six-figure bets, all in Kansas City, and the public is certainly behind Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.”

The Chiefs remained the consensus favorite of 3 points and were attracting 74% of the point bets spread across William Hill’s Caesars Sportsbook. The two biggest Super Bowl bets William Hill had placed on Friday were both on the Chiefs: $ 120,000 in Kansas City -3 (-120) and a $ 95,000 line bet on the Chiefs with a probability of -165 that would pay $ 57,575 liquids.

FanDuel and DraftKings also reported unbalanced action on the Chiefs, with more than 75% of the starting money supporting the title champions in each sportsbook.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are expected to be wagered on the Super Bowl with US sports betting, including a handful of seven-digit bets that appear regularly in the big game each year. Million dollar bets are usually placed by casino VIPs, big players who have extended bet limits. Sports betting does not regularly offer seven-digit bets to professional bettors or to the average customer who leaves the streets.
