Former deputy Beto O’Rourke ridiculed Senator Ted Cruz after he posted videos of himself on the Mexican border on Friday, in which he claimed to have met “cartel members” and “human traffickers”.
In a blurred video posted on Twitter, Cruz says he is “on the coast of Rio Grande” and has “heard” and “seen” members of the cartel who are provoking border control officials.

“This is Mexico and you can see that there are three smugglers right there on the Mexican side looking at us. They are pointing their flashlights at us, they are shouting at us, ”said Cruz in the blurry footage. The video did not show any of the alleged smugglers.

Cruz was in the Rio Grande Valley with more than a dozen other Republican senators to draw attention to what they are calling President Joe Biden’s “border crisis”, The Hill reported.
The Texas senator also tweeted video from one of the facilities, writing: “These are Biden’s cages. (Blurred faces.) Thousands of children, in the midst of a pandemic, huddled at 1,500% of capacity.”
O’Rourke, who ran unsuccessfully against Cruz for his senatorial seat in 2018, retaliated on Friday, writing in a long conversation on Twitter: “You are on a Border Patrol boat armed with machine guns. The only threat you face is unarmed children and families seeking asylum (as well as occasional questioners).”
“If you’re looking for a crisis to cosplay Senator, I’m happy to point you in the right direction,” added O’Rourke.

O’Rourke then gave the senator tips on the border situation, adding: “If you are interested in really working on solutions to what we are seeing on our border (instead of trafficking in seditious lies, fleeing Texas during a storm that killed more than 100, etc.), here are some ideas.”
The southern border has seen a wave of migrants since President Joe Biden took office. Many of them say they are attracted to Biden’s policies regarding asylum seekers and immigration.
The White House said earlier this week that there were more than 4,900 children still in custody of the Border Patrol, but that it was “making progress” by moving them to locations administered by the Department of Health and Human Services.
