Bethesda announces new game Indiana Jones from developer Wolfenstein

An Indiana Jones game, made by Machinegames and produced by Todd Howard, is in development, according to a surprise teaser from Bethesda Softworks on Tuesday morning.

The teaser has few details – like a release date or window or platforms – but there is no mistaking it, this is an Indiana Jones game. This year, Lucasfilm will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Raiders of the Lost Arkdebut of.

A follow-up tweet from Bethesda said that Todd Howard, creative director at Bethesda Game Studios, would be the executive producer of the untitled game. It will feature an original story and is not an adaptation of a previous one.

Despite the popularity of the film series, Indiana Jones video games have been hard to find, except for Lego adaptations by Traveller’s Tales. The most recent was 2009 Indiana Jones and the team of kings, for Wii and PlayStation 2, with versions for Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable.

The game had been planned for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and development was well advanced in 2008, when Lucasarts abruptly canceled the project for those platforms.

On Monday, Lucasfilm announced that the Lucasfilm Games label would now accompany all video game adaptations of Lucasfilm properties in the future. This seems to be the first game to come out with that mark.

MachineGames, owned by Bethesda Softworks, made four adaptations of the Wolfenstein series from id Software, starting in 2014 Wolfenstein: the new order. Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, in September.
