Best new books of 2021: fiction, memories, thrillers

Perhaps you are one of those people for whom life at home in 2020 meant that you finally had the opportunity to make a mark on the precariously high stack of books perched near your bed. Or maybe you’re someone whose attention span has been so reduced by the events of the past year that he could barely read a tweet, let alone a novel. Whether you fall into the first category or the last (or, more likely, somewhere in the middle), the good thing about entering a new year is that you can fool yourself by saying it means one of two things: you have a slate totally clean move on with which to start over or you can build all the positive habits you have recently acquired without any interruption. Anyway, good for you.
