Bengals hired Larry Ogunjobi from Browns at the free NFL agency

Cincinnati Bengals is closing a busy day with the signing of Larry Ogunjobi, who has been a prominent defensive lineman at the Cleveland Browns. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Ogunjobi has agreed to the terms of a one-year contract with Cincinnati.

Ogunjobi, a fifth-year player in 2021, was originally a third round pick by the Browns in the 2017 NFL draft. He played college football in Charlotte, and his high-level production and athletic testing is what made him the choice of the second day.

In his four years with the Browns, Ogunjobi played 60 matches and started 47 of them. He recorded 14.5 sacks, 108 solo tackles and 29 loss tackles in Cleveland, with 11 of those sacks coming only from the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Although Ogunjobi – who will be 27 later this year – has always been able to make splash moves, he has never become a consistent force for the Browns. In 2019, Cleveland hired Sheldon Richardson to play with the 3 techniques and subsequently changed Ogunjobi to face the nose. Richardson has shown himself to be the most consistent player in the past two years, which is probably why the Browns decided to let Ogunjobi test the market.

2020 was definitely a bad year for Ogunjobi, as he recorded casualties in his career in the defense score PFF (51.4) and pass mark (56.2), but he is still a young player with an athletic and productive track record . This one-year contract gives Ogunjobi the chance to recover and hit the market next year, when the salary cap is substantially higher.

In addition, it is important to note that Ogunjobi trains and is a good friend of Geno Atkins, who is still in the Bengals lineup.

This signature may indicate that Atkins will be staying for another year to play with someone he is close to. Otherwise, the Bengals are replacing their 3-year-old technique with a player whose advantage was already very similar to Atkins.
