Ben Simmons has been one of the most exclusive players in the NBA in recent years, thanks to his skill set. Although technically a shipowner, Simmons has the build of a great man and manages most of his buckets by pushing people out. He has been constantly criticized for his lack of shooting ability, but even with that in mind, Simmons is considered a top player in the entire NBA.

Last night, Simmons and his Sixers lost to the Portland Trailblazers by a score of 118-114, although Simmons was praised for his defense at Damian Lillard. After the game, Simmons was asked about his defense, where he ended up making some rather bold statements that raised some eyebrows.

By Ben Simmons:

“I am proud to defend the best player on the court every night. It is not a single thing. If you watch me, I am usually defending the best player, and usually the best players are the guards or guards, guards, whatever. And I love it, I love the fact that my teammates can look at me and say to me ‘you have to go out and lock this guy up’.

“There are nights when the guys explode. It will happen. But most of the time, I feel like I’m doing a good job and making the right moves. I feel like I’m the best defender in the NBA.”

A proclamation like this will always come with a little bit of scrutiny, although you can’t help but appreciate Simmons for having confidence in yourself. The 76ers look great this season, and if Simmons continues to play, they have a real shot at the title.
