Ben Higgins learned that appearing on TV is not always what it seems.
The former star of The bachelor was a guest on Thursday, January 28th episode of Click Bait With Bachelor Nation podcast, where he opened up about when he learned that the romance ended with Lauren Bushnell. The couple became engaged during the final episode of the ABC dating series that aired in March 2016, but announced the end of the relationship in May 2017.
“I don’t think there was a trait that was necessarily wrong, but the timing of our life, right?” He explained. “I was 26, she was 25, we had just entered this new world together. We were living in Denver, where she didn’t know anyone, and then life was pulling us in a thousand different directions.”
As fans remember, the newlyweds followed the unusual path of starring in their own reality show, Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever After?, which debuted in October 2016 on Freeform. The makeshift series featured more than a few embarrassing moments of tension, and Ben explained on the podcast that this was the result of the pair not knowing how to have “direct communication” during the early stages of their relationship while the cameras continued to roll.

“At the very least, we got into it still knowing each other, so we weren’t teammates,” said the 31-year-old. Almost famous podcast co-host said. “It ended up separating us, but I think it separated us for the right reasons. Now I’m happily engaged, she is very well married and has a child on the way. Now I look back and say, of course it didn’t work. We weren’t the best. to each other. But I can also look back and learn a lot. “
Fortunately, these lessons paid off. He later met Jessica Clarke on social media, and the two became engaged in March 2020. As Ben recalled on the podcast, Jessica was in for a big surprise when she arrived at her home after flying to meet him for the first time.
“She went up the front steps and my sidewalks were a little long,” he said. “She had her bags in her hand, and I just went out and just gave her a kiss. Not just a kiss – I put it over her. And she was like, Wow!”
As for when he learned that she was the right person to spend his life with, Ben explained that he had already made up his mind a few months after meeting her.
“Once you have that partner who wants to support you, who is curious about you, who loves you, that you just have that peace and trust with them, that you recognize that your life is more beautiful with them than without them, I think the question you have to ask is, why not? ” Alone in full view author said. “What else are you looking for?
