The future of Chicago Bears’ star receiver Allen Robinson has been in the air since last September, which was also the last time there were contract discussions between the two sides.

When the Bears put the franchise’s brand on Robinson on March 9, it came as no surprise after hearing GM Ryan Pace talk about Robinson’s importance to the team with no real progress in hiring him for a long-term extension.

Robinson hesitated to sign his franchise brand, which made sense given the lack of progress on a new contract. But after some initial hesitation, Robinson signed his franchise brand, according to Ian Rapoport.

So, why the sudden change?

According to Brad Biggs of Chicago Tribune, Robinson noted that the wide receivers were not exactly making money at the free agency. So why not take the $ 18 million payment and wait another year to reach the open market.

Biggs also noted that Robinson “does not believe that agreeing to the tag will affect his leverage for a multiyear deal”.

Biggs does not expect this to be a “tag and trade” scenario, which is interesting considering that Pace and coach Matt Nagy met Kenny Golladay on Wednesday night, examining his options as a receiver.
