According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears will retain coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace for the 2021 season.
This is a question that Bears fans have been debating throughout the season, but apparently we have our answer.
What may be the biggest surprise, however, is the status of defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, Pagano decided to retire.
There is no telling if the Bears would retain him for the next season. Nagy brought Pagano to act as his defensive coordinator in 2019, after Vic Fangio left to become the Broncos’ head coach.
Before signing Pagano in 2018, Bears finished first in allowed defensive points. They have started to plummet since then, dropping to fourth place in 2019 and 14th in 2020.
Pagano will quit after a 26-year coaching career, including nine seasons in the NFL.
Although it is probably the end of the line in Chicago for many notable players, Nagy and Pace enter what will undoubtedly be the most important off-season of their management. Many questions still remain unanswered at Halas Hall.
