Bears’ Jay Rodgers allegedly leaving to work at the Los Angeles Chargers

It looks like Jay Rodgers won’t be Bears’ next defensive coordinator.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the defensive line coach is leaving Chicago to join Brandon Staley’s team at the Los Angeles Chargers. NBC Sports Chicago can also confirm the change:

Rodgers, who joined Bears in 2015 as a D-line coach, was one of the most respected assistants on Matt Nagy’s team. He and Staley worked under then defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in 2018, when Bears ended the year with arguably the best defense of the past decade.

Rodgers’ departure means that the only remaining internal candidate is security technician Sean Desai. The team is also looking at Mike Singletary, Colts DB coach Jonathan Gannon, Cowboys defensive assistant George Edwards, and ex-Cardinals and Giants, DC James Bettcher.
