Bear chases down skier downhill in Romania: ‘Don’t look back!’

This skier probably couldn’t take another minute on the slopes.

A young man’s quick thinking may have saved his life after throwing his backpack to distract a bear that chased him on a ski slope in Romania.

It was a spectacle on the slopes of the Predeal mountain resort in Brasov County last month, when a brown bear advanced on the skiing tourist, Digi24 reported.

BEAR BEAR CAPTURED IN YELLOW CONFIRMED AS THE OLDEST IN THE REGION

“Faster, faster! Go, the bear is chasing you! Faster! God forbid, don’t look back!” spectators shouted from the cable car on 23 January.

Probably keeping in mind that his options were limited, the skier deftly tossed his bag to distract the wild animal – and the maneuver was worth it. The bear ran to the side of the slope to take a closer look, and the skier skidded to safety, unscathed.

“The skier did the right thing,” Ion Zaharia, a spokesman for the local police, told ABC News. “The bear was distracted by things in his backpack.”

“We are considering relocating the bear, which should hibernate now, but in recent years, we have more bears facing skiers in the winter.”

The surprise marked the third bear sighting that day, reports Digi24. On the same Saturday, authorities received two further calls that a bear was spotted on the Clabucet hillside. According to Zaharia, however, these scares with bears are not uncommon at the Transylvanian resort during this time of year.
