South Carolina Football Coach Shane Beamer completed his first coaching staff for the second time at the end of last week, when he hired Montario Hardesty as your new running back trainer. Beamer was thought to have the full team on January 22, when Greg Adkins was hired to train the offensive line, but former running back coach Des Kitchings it came out just five days later.
Four coaches – Kitchings, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, defensive line coach Tracy Rocker and offensive line coach Will be friend – everyone agreed to be part of the Gamecocks technical committee, but ended up leaving for other opportunities. Beamer had to replace the four coaches, but athletics director Ray Tanner he said he was not very surprised by what happened.
Coaches are leaving faster these days, but Tanner said Beamer handled the challenges and opportunities presented very well.
“I was hoping, to be honest with you, just because I’ve been in this business for a while and I saw the coaching profession evolve in a different way maybe many, many years ago,” said Tanner recently in an interview with Jay Philips at 107.5 The game, when asked if the coaches leaving Beamer’s team surprised him.
“Coaches make moves faster than in the past, not just in football, but in many other sports as well. Shane went through a situation where he had a big plan and some things didn’t go exactly as he expected, and he had to go in a different direction. It is part of the process and he handled it extremely well. “
Tanner said he “probably cared (Beamer) a little more than I should” about the correspondence he sent to his first-year head coach for the first time. But he just wanted to check on Beamer and make sure everything was fine when the hiring process needed to be restarted.
“I just wanted to make sure he was in the right place, and he was,” said Tanner. “With his maturity, this is not his first rodeo. He has been training at a high level for 21 years, so he has seen a lot of things happen. He was prepared. He understood that certain situations were going to happen and you have to make some decisions at a different time and move on. This is what we did. “
The South Carolina technical team certainly looks complete now for Beamer and the Gamecocks, who will open spring training in mid-March this year. All coaches are now on campus, along with many of the support staff and analysts.
While gathering the coaching staff may have seemed like an adventure at times to some, Tanner says his head coach handled the process extremely well.
