Beamer excited to add ‘hellish recruiter’ to the Gamecocks team

South Carolina Gamecocks trainer Shane Beamer you think you just added another quality recruiter to your field team.

On Wednesday morning, Beamer presented Greg Adkins as your new offensive line coach. Adkins, who was a technical assistant in Tennessee while Beamer worked as a graduate assistant, has spent the last three seasons in Marshall, after making stops in Charlotte (2017) and Oklahoma State (2015-16).

“He’s a hell of a recruiter and always has been,” said Beamer. “Great person who will be great for our players, our offensive line, on and off the field. It will help these guys. Very qualified. As I said, great recruiter. “

Beamer shared a long-winded response when asked what makes Adkins so hellish on the recruiting trail.

“He’s a great person, so that’s it,” said Beamer. “When recruiting children, knowledge and credibility are needed. When you talk about a guy who has the track record he has, both as a professional and college coach, the players he coached and the way his players talk about him, it makes an immediate impact when you start researching him , if you are a potential customer.

“He’s a great guy, first of all. Very easy to live with and very personal. You have to love recruiting. When I was in Tennessee with him, it was very, very obvious how much he loved to recruit. Many coaches say they like to recruit and all that, but they don’t.

“It is quite obvious with him. He is passionate about it. You see that with the guys he managed to recruit, the lines he was able to develop and, for me, those are some of the biggest things – just work ethic. He’s passionate about it and knows what he’s looking for, and does a fantastic job of getting it. “

Adkins later shared his interpretation and his response was longer than Beamer’s.

“As you can see, with the number of people we hire here, I’m probably the oldest, so I have known the block a lot,” said Adkins. “I know many people. I kind of recruited and trained in almost every state around this area, so I know a lot of people and it’s unbelievable how many texts I get from high school coaches.

“In Georgia and North Carolina, some even here in South Carolina, obviously in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas – just excited about the opportunity I have to come here and be with some of the other coaches that they ‘ I have had relationships or I have been to school and I recruited their school, perhaps one person over a six-year period. “

Since 1991, Adkins has trained in Marshall, Georgia, Troy, Tennessee and Syracuse. He worked for two seasons in the NFL with Buffalo Bills before returning to college in 2015.

Between 2003-08, while working in Tennessee, Adkins said he visited about 40 states.

“Hawaii, Oregon, California, anywhere,” he said. “It doesn’t matter. For me, I think as long as you are sincere with people, right? And many people don’t like the truth, but if you are sincere with people and they trust you, you will have a great opportunity to get them.

“Obviously, you have to have facilities and traditions and everything, and this is all in place (in South Carolina). Now, it’s about their relationship getting to know me even more. “
