Beamer adjusts spring training schedule to benefit coaches and players

There is usually a break at spring football camp in South Carolina when spring break arrives on campus. There is no spring break this semester, but the football team will take a minimum break from football training next week.

Head coach of Gamecocks Shane Beamer announced a change to the spring training schedule on Thursday after the third training session at the camp, the first on full pads.

“We are going to adjust our schedule a bit, for what it was (released),” said Beamer. “Nothing important, but since it’s Easter weekend next weekend, we were already giving our boys a break on Good Friday and we have a wellbeing holiday at the university (on Tuesday, March 30), so we would only practice on Monday and Thursday. Let’s take a step back and use those two days next week as walking, lifting and meeting days. “

Interrupting the action on helmets and protectors will allow Beamer and his team to do two things; evaluate and heal.

“It gives the team a chance to see where we are and what we need to do in the future,” said Beamer. “Mostly, more than anything, from a health standpoint, we have a few guys right now with some irritating injuries and illnesses. A few more days for these guys would be incredible from the point of view of rehab.

“We had some guys who were hurt in practice today, nothing important, just a few minor things. We want to give them a chance to come back and get acclimatized next week and be able to go full speed after that. The days of scrimmage and the spring game are all the same, just the order of how we get there will change a little. “

Beamer did not address specific injuries other than running back SeaShawn Lloyd, who is it limited in practice when he returns from last year’s knee surgery, and offensive striker Jakai Moore is dealing with peat toe.

“Other than that, these are not new surgeries,” said Beamer. “These are surgeries that our guys are recovering from returning to last season. Some of these guys have little things, hamstrings and shoulders that you will have during spring training. If they haven’t been released yet, we should take most of these guys back next week. This will allow us, after the Easter weekend, to get as close as possible to a full group. “

To end the rest of this week, selected offensive players will have media availability on Friday, practice # 4 will be on Saturday and Sunday will be a day off.
