Beamer addresses the situation of the Gamecocks quarterback

Shane Beamer has two scholarship quarterbacks on the South Carolina Gamecock list.

“We are evaluating everything,” he told reporters on Monday morning, when asked about the possibility of adding more players to the position.

Luke Doty is the only stock market player who has returned to office. He’s been on campus since last January. As a freshman, he completed 43 of 71 passes for 405 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

Colten Gauthier, a three-star recruit from Dacula, Georgia, arrived in South Carolina over the weekend. Ryan Hilinski, which started 11 games in 2019, transferred after the 2020 season. Collin Hill, the holder in the first eight games in 2020, will not return for a second season with Gamecocks.

“Ryan and I had a great conversation when he called me to say he was entering the portal,” said Beamer.

Hilinski and Beamer have exchanged text messages since Mike Bobo he left for Auburn, though Beamer said nothing more. TheBigSpur previously reported that Hilinski was not expected to return to the team.

At 7 am on Monday, Beamer and his team met before dividing in attack and defense to review the current roster, recruits and potential transfers. Offensive coordinator / defender coach Marcus Satterfield took part in these meetings.

“We are trying to improve competition and depth in every position we occupy on this team,” said Beamer. “I wish we had unlimited grants. We don’t know, but we will be creative. … It has to be the right dynamic if we add to that room. “

Dakereon Joyner arrived in South Carolina as a quarterback, but was transferred to a full-time wide receiver before last season. He split the time between the two positions in 2019.

Beamer did not specifically say whether or not Joyner would be an option as a defender in 2021.

“We always want to be about competition and competition and everything we do,” said Beamer.
