BCSO MP arrested for assaulting spouse a second time, officials said

SANTO ANTÓNIO – A deputy from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office accused of assaulting his wife earlier this year was arrested again on another assault charge, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.

John Paul Garza, 31, was charged with continuing violence against a family member and breach of a protection order after the Sunday night incident, Salazar said. Both charges are third-degree crimes that carry $ 10,000 bail each, the record records show.

During a press conference on Monday morning, Salazar said that Garza assaulted the woman by throwing her on the floor and kicking her in the face, causing the woman’s clothes to become “bloody”.

Garza took off his clothes in an attempt to cover up the evidence, Salazar said, and the woman, who was partially dressed, ran to a neighbor’s house for help.

“It is very disturbing, frankly,” he said.

Garza left the scene before the police arrived, said the sheriff. Authorities found Garza in another location hours later, and records show that he was arrested at 2 am on Monday.

The patrol chief was off duty at the time of the attack, officials said, and was already in the process of being fired due to an incident involving the same victim in February.

On February 6, Garza was arrested on charges of physical assault – married after assaulting his wife. When police arrived at the location in North Bexar County the night before, Garza had already fled, BCSO said.

He was later found and detained, and the BCSO announced that he would be placed on an administrative license.

“This second time attack was much more violent than the first,” Salazar said on Monday.

Garza has not been an alternate since February and is on administrative leave without pay.

Salazar said Garza’s internal file included a violent interaction with an inmate in 2013 that Garza instigated and then lied to in a polygraph.

He was hired by the firm in July 2012.

This is breaking news. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
