Bayern Munich Robert Lewandowski played a key role in Bayern Munich’s 1-0 victory over Tigres UANL at the World Cup, but not in his normal way of scoring goals.
Twice, Lewandowski found himself in a precarious offensive position that played a role in his team’s offensive production. In the first part, Lewandowski’s offside position protected Nahuel Guzmán, who was annulled by VAR in what would have been a picturesque goal by Joshua Kimmich.

In the second half, however, Lewandowski – who was originally hindered by Benjamin Pavard’s winning goal – managed to hold the line by VAR. For the 32-year-old, who scored the goal didn’t matter, only that it was someone from Bayern Munich.
“I think we just wanted to win today. We managed to pass the flank once and now we have six pack ”, said Lewandowski.
A player whose presence was notably absent was Lewandowski’s main man, Thomas Müller. The Polish Hitman was happy that his team was able to adapt and provide coverage for the Raumdeuter in the short term.
“Yes, it’s a shame he wasn’t there,” said Lewandowski. “I hope he comes back quickly. In football you have to adapt to something like that and show the best of football. “
Although Lewandowski was happy to achieve this historic achievement, he quickly realized that the team’s party plans would be limited to the plane ride home.
“We are flying straight back to Munich,” said Lewandowski. “We can still enjoy the time on the plane. We made history, this is special ”.
