Bay Area ‘stay at home’ request extended indefinitely until ICU capacity increases

The Bay Area has indefinitely extended the coronavirus order of stay at home, as the ICU’s capacity remains extremely low amid new cases.

Governor Gavin Newsom indicated earlier in the week that he expected regional orders to continue in place in parts of California.

“I think it is quite evident that we will need to extend these original dates,” said Newsom, according to KTVU.

“Based on all the data and trend lines, it is very likely that we will need to extend this order to stay at home.”

The order was due to expire on Friday, but the ICU’s capacity is below the desired 15%, registering at 13.7% on Monday and falling over the week.

As of Friday, the Bay Area had 3% of capacity, according to the Contra Costa Herald.

The extended order maintains travel restrictions for essential activities only, according to the NBC Bay Area. Residents are advised to leave their homes only for medical appointments, shopping or work.

Traveling in and out of the state is also strongly discouraged.

Almost all of California is under stricter orders to stay home due to the overwhelming numbers.
