Competition makes everyone better. For this reason, above all, it is a positive development that South Carolina has a quarterback battle in this off-season.
Although there are many questions to be answered and stories to be followed as a new head coach Shane Beamer and his team start their first spring training in Columbia in 11 days, there will be none more important than this. After all, it is the most important position on the field.
Technically, there are three candidates for the position. Second year Luke Dotyjunior transfer Jason Brown and true freshman Colten Gauthier are the scholarship quarterbacks on the Gamecocks list. Without excluding Gauthier completely, however, the job is expected to fall to Doty and Brown. Therefore, for the purposes of this article, we will focus on the two main candidates. Gauthier has an arm, a good frame and a bright future, so he will do a good account of himself, but Doty and Brown will probably be the first two.
