Basketball star Illinois Fighting Illini, Ayo Dosunmu, has been suffering from facial injuries indefinitely

Illinois guard star Ayo Dosunmu has been out indefinitely after suffering a facial injury, the school announced on Thursday.

Dosunmu suffered the injury in Tuesday’s loss to the state of Michigan. He suffered a severe lack of Spartan freshman Mady Sissoko towards the end of the game; Sissoko was sent off after being hit with a blatant 2 foul. Dosunmu did not leave the game, however.

Brad Underwood did not offer a specific schedule for Dosunmu’s return, but said he would not play against Nebraska on Thursday night.

“Ayo is looking forward to playing,” said Underwood. “We are hopeful of your return to our team.”

Dosunmu is a candidate for the wood prize, averaging 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists. The 1.8m tall guard is 35th in the NBA’s ESPN ranking.

Illinois, fifth in this week’s AP poll, saw its streak of seven consecutive victories against the state of Michigan on Tuesday. Fighting Illini are 16-6 overall, 12-4 in the Big Ten.
