Barack Obama is getting into the podcast game. Today, Spotify announced that former president and rock star Bruce Springsteen – yes, you read that right – will present a program called Renegades: born in the USA exclusively for the audio platform. They will discuss “race, parenting, marriage and the state of America,” according to a press release, and the first two episodes open today for Spotify’s free and premium users. The first season will contain eight episodes in total.
Higher Ground, producer of Michelle and Barack Obama, signed a contract with Spotify in 2019, committing to create exclusive podcasts for the platform. Renegades it is the second of these shows. The Michelle Obama Podcast debuted last summer on Spotify and was later made available on several platforms, including Apple Podcasts. Spotify said the show was the biggest Spotify Original show “in history”, but did not share specific numbers. Presumably, this show will be just as big, if not bigger, giving Spotify even more of a chance to bring people to its podcast platform.
