Balcony pirate defeated by the most Canadian of anti-theft devices: a snow bank

An aspiring pirate on the porch is facing charges after being caught by the camera allegedly trying to steal a package from someone’s door in Mississauga, but his car gets stuck in a snow bank while trying to escape.

The incident unfolded in a video widely shared on social media. Police say it happened around 2:30 pm on January 4, in the Meadows Boulevard and Erin Center Boulevard area.

The video begins with a man opening the front door, startling another man standing on his step. You can watch it in the player at the top of this story.

“There,” exclaims the person behind the camera as the man on the porch runs to the car, apologizing.

A ban across Manitoba from selling non-essential items in stores and an incentive for people to stay home this holiday means that more people are doing their shopping online – but it also means that more opportunities are presented to package thieves. 02:27

The man then begins to reverse his little hatchback in a pile of snow, where he gets stuck, frantically turning the front wheels.

He can then be seen trying desperately to get his car moving – trying everything from getting snow off his hands and knees to pushing the car out of the snow, but to no avail.

“Do you want me to get you a shovel?” the man who is filming says at one point, while the driver accelerates the engine, going nowhere.

The man behind the camera later starts to give you even more instructions, telling the other man that your car is front-wheel drive, so he needs to put those wheels on the ground if he wants to go anywhere.

The Peel Regional Police say a 33-year-old man from Brampton was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with a charge of theft less than $ 5,000 and a charge of fraud.

He was later released and is expected to appear in court at a future date.
