Bahrain minister criticizes Qatar despite deal to end crack

DUBAI (Reuters) – Qatar has taken no initiative to resolve the problems with Bahrain, despite an agreement to end a more than three-year rift, Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani said on Thursday .

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt earlier this month agreed to a summit to restore diplomatic, commercial and travel ties severed in 2017 because of accusations that Qatar supported terrorism, a charge it denies.

The emerging deal came after mediation efforts by former US President Donald Trump and Kuwait.

“Qatar did not show after the summit in al-Ula (Saudi Arabia) any initiative to resolve outstanding problems with Bahrain,” said Zayani, according to a post by his ministry on Twitter. He did not elaborate on the problems that need to be solved.

His criticisms contrast with an optimistic assessment of the relationship with Qatar by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, who told Dubai’s al-Arabiya TV channel on Thursday that the kingdom’s embassy in Doha should reopen “in days “.
