BAGHDAD – Two suicide attacks hit the Iraqi capital on Thursday, killing at least six people and injuring at least 25 others, said three police officers and state TV.
Police said two explosions hit a shopping center in central Baghdad. Iraqi state television reported suicide bombings. Many of the injured were in serious condition and there was material damage.

The officers spoke on condition of anonymity, according to regulations.

The attacks are the first in years to hit Baghdad’s busy shopping district. They come amid increased political tensions, as Iraq appears to have early elections in October.
