Backstage note on the original plans for the SmackDown elimination chamber departure

A second Elimination Chamber Match was announced in the last episode of Smash. The winner of that match will face Universal Champion Roman Reigns on the same night as the PPV.

In the latest issue of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Reigns was originally planned to be part of the Elimination Chamber Match. However, plans have most likely changed to not reflect the same scenario with WWE champion Drew McIntyre, where he will be defending his title within the Elimination Chamber.

On Smash, WWE officer Adam Pearce said Reigns had to be in the Elimination Chamber. However, Paul Heyman explained that Reigns only had to be on PPV.

Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, King Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan all qualified for the fight. It was also announced that there will be a gauntlet match in CRUDE to decide the final participant in the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match.
