Back 4 Blood confirms return of important Left 4 Dead feature

Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to Turtle Rock Studios in the Left 4 Dead franchise, and it looks like the game will bring back a feature that has become popular throughout the series. In a new video, the developer revealed that the game’s director of game feature Left 4 Dead will come back in Back 4 Blood. For those unfamiliar with the feature, it allowed an AI to change the way each level is played. This resulted in different item positions, enemy spawns and more. Back 4 Blood not only will it incorporate this feature, but it will also sound like it has been expanded in some interesting ways.

The video for Turtle Rock Studios can be found embedded below.

According to Turtle Rock, Back 4 Blood will take it a step further with the addition of a new mechanic called Letters of Corruption. At the beginning of the level, the game director will use these cards, allowing him to change things like the strength of enemies, the visibility of the map or the opponents that players encounter. To cancel these cards, players will be able to use their own deck, which can have a positive impact on the health, stamina and more of the player. Finding the right accountant can mean the difference between life and death, and the concept should give the game a great repetition value. As a result, the developer states that “no experience will be the same twice”. More information about the card system can be found here.

Given the popularity of Left 4 Dead, there is a lot of pressure on Turtle Rock Studios to ensure that Back 4 Blood lives up to the high standards of the fans. Many spiritual successors have struggled to do just that over the years, but Back 4 Blood it looks very promising so far, and the improvements to the game director’s feature should be very interesting. For fans of Left 4 Dead, and those looking to just kill hordes of zombies with friends, Back 4 Blood it definitely looks like a promising game to keep in mind!

Back 4 Blood is scheduled to be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC later this year.
