Avalanche vs. Golden Knights: the outdoor game at Lake Tahoe resumes after the postponement due to the sun

The COVID-19 pandemic taught the sports world to expect the unexpected and that is exactly what happened on Saturday. After a game period between the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights in Lake Tahoe, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman joined the NBC broadcast and announced that the game was being delayed until midnight ET / 9pm PT on Saturday as a result of unsafe ice conditions.

The strong sun on a clear day simply caused many problems during the first part of the day. Several players and even a referee lost their footing on the melted ice. After the end of the first period, the employees made an attempt to work with the ice and covered their sections with tarps, in an attempt to avoid the sun.

In the first period of what started as a Saturday game, Avalanche opened the scoring with a goal from defender Samuel Girard thanks to a beautiful pass by Nathan MacKinnon. Check for updates for the second period and more as the action happens.
