Authorities identify four people killed in Millcreek Canyon avalanche

The Unified Police Department identified the four people killed in Saturday’s avalanche in Millcreek Canyon.

The authorities confirmed that there were two groups skiing in the area when the avalanche was triggered; a group of five people and a group of three.

The avalanche swept through all eight individuals. All were well prepared and had the necessary equipment for the conditions, but only four managed to get out.

The four survivors, all male between the ages of 23 and 38, were lifted off the mountain by Life Flight helicopters without fatal injuries.

Due to unstable conditions, recovery efforts for the four dead were resumed on Sunday morning.

The Unified Police Department confirmed that the four deceased skiers are:

  • Sarah Moughamian, of Sandy, 29,
  • Louis Holian, 26, of Salt Lake City,
  • Stephanie Hopkins, 26, of Salt Lake City, and
  • Thomas Louis Steinbrecher, 23, of Salt Lake City.

This is a developing story.
