Morrison’s comments came hours after The Australian and Channel 10 reported allegations and images by an anonymous whistleblower about the obscene behavior of government officials in Parliament.
They featured men filming themselves performing solo sexual acts, including at the table of a female parliamentarian.
A government official was removed from his post, a government minister said on Tuesday.
Morrison described the report as “disgusting” and said he would speak to all government officials on Tuesday to remind them of their responsibilities.
The issue spurred tens of thousands of people to demonstrate around Australia last week and led to a drop in Morrison’s position in opinion polls.
Morrison tried to defend his government’s actions by working to improve gender equality, but on Tuesday he accepted that there was widespread dissatisfaction.
“I recognize that many Australians, especially women, believe that I have not heard them, and that is very distressing to me,” Morrison told reporters in Canberra.
“We must do better … we must put this house in order.”
However, he offered few concrete proposals to improve workplace culture in parliament, insisting that the changes would be announced in the coming weeks.
