MagSafe debuted last fall as Apple’s latest and most innovative way to refill its iPhone 12. Since then, we’ve seen a collection of third-party accessories flood the market bringing similar magnetic charging capabilities to its kit. Today, let’s take a look at one of the latest offers in the MagSafe-compatible sphere, with the new 15W magnetic wireless charger from Aukey. Our most recent Tested with 9to5Toys investigates whether you should add this more affordable alternative to your daily shipping or whether it’s better to choose Apple’s official offer.

Aukey MagSafe compatible charger practice

Having first launched in late February, Aukey joined many other third-party brands with the launch of its own MagSafe-compatible charger. The brand’s new offering arrives with much of the same design you would expect from the format, producing a compact disc with integrated magnets to fit the back of your iPhone 12 series device.

Entering a $ 19 In the price range, the entire construction of the Aukey MagSafe compatible charger is made of plastic. It doesn’t look cheap at all, and it still has a good weight in the construction that matches an integrated 1.2m USB-C cable. In terms of actual charging speeds, iPhones will be able to charge up to 7.5W, with the charger also being able to double as a standard Qi pad to distribute its speeds up to 15W.

Here is a look at the spec sheet:

  • Dock and plug: Qi certified with fast wireless charging up to 15W. A magnetically clip to wirelessly charge your iPhone 8 or later, as well as AirPods models with a wireless charging case, as you would any Qi-certified charger
  • Call, game on: keep your calls and games online at all times while your phone is carried in your hands. The integrated 3.93 ft / 1.2 m USB-C cable is long enough for useful reach and you never need to go hunting for an additional cable
  • Safe in every way: just align your device on the charging area to start charging safely. It includes a comprehensive set of protections that make sure things never get too hot. Strong magnetic connection protects your device from accidentally dragging or dropping
  • Fast charging via USB-C: To reach the charging speed of 15 W, you will need power adapters of 18 W / 20 W or higher.

All of these specifications question whether Aukey’s third-party MagSafe compatible charger is worth your money. I don’t want to rush into it, but the final answer is yes – just with a few caveats. If there was one thing to keep in mind, it would be that some of the official MagSafe specifications are missing. So while you can take advantage of similar wireless magnetic charging, some of the more premium original features are missing. But does that end up being an obstacle at the end of the day? We are testing this.

In the same vein, Aukey’s MagSafe compatible charger is not as premium as the official Apple model. But that’s pretty much taken for granted when it comes to third-party accessories versus the real deal, especially in the low-cost category, like your private charger. This is fully compensated, however, by the fact that it occurs at a price point below $ 20.

In addition to losing the iPhone’s 15W charging speeds, the biggest drawback is that the magnetic is not as strong as the official model. It is still quite capable of getting stuck on the back of your device, but it has a little more flexibility than you will find with Apple’s internal offering.

Ultimately, all of this means that the value is certainly there. The Aukey MagSafe compatible charger may not have 15 W charging speeds for iPhone 12 devices, but this is a great alternative to consider for any number of use cases. If you’re hoping to buy a secondary charger to enjoy MagSafe in another room, or just don’t want to pay Apple’s tax, it’s an attractive option.

Best of all, you’ll find a continuous discount on Amazon that reduces the Aukey MagSafe compatible charger to $ 16.14 when cutting the coupon on the page.
