The South Carolina football player is the primary target of an SEC rival.
South Carolina’s new coach Shane Beamer completed his offensive team in Columbia, but a Football Scoop report says that an important part of that team is being contacted by a rival school at the Southeast Conference.
According to the report, offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is the main target of Auburn’s new coach Bryan Harsin. Bobo was a remnant of the previous South Carolina team, after the Gamecocks showed a marked improvement in a variety of areas throughout the offensive unit.
With Bobo leading the group, the Gamecocks saw the initial tailback Kevin Harris lead the SEC in the race, and had a receiver in the top ten, senior Shi Smith. The questions were about him keeping quarterback Collin Hill in the lineup over a fight season, but for the most part, the attack seemed to be increasing.
Now, that progress may be in jeopardy.
Bobo led Gamecocks as an interim coach in his last three games following the resignation of former leader Will Muschamp. He also signed a two-year, $ 1.2 million deal earlier this week to remain an offensive coordinator for South Carolina until 2022.
Before joining the Gamecocks team, Bobo was at Colorado State, where he posted a 28-35 record in five seasons. Although things did not work as a head coach, he is still considered one of the most highly rated players in college football, especially at the SEC. He led Georgia’s 2007-2014 attacks, and taught classes to Bulldog quarterbacks like Matt Stafford and Aaron Murray.
This will be a big test for Shane Beamer, as he now needs to prevent the coaches from being hunted before the team is fully assembled. The loss of Bobo can be detrimental to a program that is constantly changing, as it would halt the progression of an offense that is just getting acquainted with its new trainer and could impact the compromise status of Gunner Stockton, the country’s biggest signal caller in the class of 2022.
This would also leave Gamecocks without an offensive or defensive coordinator, which would certainly affect recruitment efforts and the decisions of potential players interested in playing for South Carolina.
One thing that is working towards Gamecocks is Drew Bobo, son of Mike Bobo, who is starting to study at Hammond High in Columbia. He may not be willing to uproot his family twice in so many years, and when combined with the recent extension of the contract, Gamecocks can be safe.
Bobo’s message to South Carolina after taking over the middle of the season was one of commitment and playing for the guys by his side. Let’s see if that message remains true as rival teams try to lure the author away from Columbia.
