Auburn opens the season outdoors with Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Alabama. – Auburn’s athletics program will open the 2021 outdoor season at home, as it hosts the Tiger Track Classic on Hutsell-Rosen Track on Fridays and Saturdays.

The action starts Friday at 2pm, with field events scheduled to start at 7pm. Saturday’s field events will start at 11:30 am, while the action on the track is expected to start at 12pm. This will be the first outdoor competition in Auburn in two years, as last season’s outdoor programming has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We usually have a week off between the inside and the start of the outside, but that shouldn’t really affect any of our athletes,” Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. “Most of them had three weeks off from competitions, so we will be ready to go. We have a large team field, so it should be a good start for us.”

Tigers are coming out of a successful indoor season, which saw Tiger women finish tenth nationally behind Joyce Kimeli, who won an NCAA championship in 5000m. On the male side, Auburn had his best SEC Indoor points total in eight years behind the sprinter Dante Brown who claimed the SEC 60m title.

Auburn will be one of 14 programs competing in the two-day meeting. Auburn (M / W), Alabama (M / W), Alabama State (M / W), Clemson (M / W), Florida State (M / W), Louisville (M / W), MTSU (M / W) , Ole Miss (M / W), South Alabama (M / W), South Carolina (M / W), Tennessee (M / W), Troy (M / W), UAB (W) and Vanderbilt (W).
