On Saturday, Auburn had his first encounter with the SEC competition this season, in a 5-4 victory over South Carolina. In Auburn’s second game of the day, the Tigers defeated Jacksonville 5-1.
Against South Carolina, freshman pitcher Maddie Penta set a career record with nine eliminations in a full game. Penta fought against adversity, giving up four well-deserved races, but helped Auburn to win.
Tigers were boosted late by their core attack against Gamecocks, with solid performance on Aspyn Godwin’s plate. Godwin was 2 of 3 with two RBIs and a home run.
Auburn was in danger of losing the game after allowing a late race, but Penta left the final race blocked to seal the victory.
The victory over South Carolina marked Mickey Dean’s 100th victory as Auburn’s head coach. With the win, Penta became Auburn’s first freshman pitcher since Makayla Martin to start his career 3-0.
Against Jacksonville, the Auburn streak began to work on the 5-1 victory. After the Tigers scored in a failed Dolphins pick-off attempt, freshman Makayla Packer crushed his first college home run to make a 2-0 game.
A pair of goals in the third round put the Tigers 4-0, after which neither team scored until the seventh. In the seventh, Auburn scored in an Abby Tissier RBI to go up 5-0. At the end of the seventh, the Dolphins achieved their only round of the game with a two-game solo home run.

Shelby Lowe launched four innings and allowed only three hits, along with two eliminations. KK Dismukes made the save after throwing the last three entries. Dismukes allowed a walk, a run and hit four in his three work entries.
“When our pitchers worked ahead, they were very successful,” said coach Mickey Dean. “They were almost impossible to beat. The only time we got into trouble in the circle was when we fell behind in the count. We recognize that and we will work on it. Offensively, we scored in many different ways today, which is what you like to see outside your team. Defensively, I felt that we did very well. We made some important plays and did not allow the other team to prolong the game by making defensive mistakes ”.
Auburn closes the Osprey / Dolphin Invitational on Sunday with a rematch against No. 19 South Carolina. The first pitch is scheduled for 9 am CST.
