AT&T says ‘significant progress’ has been made to restore service impacted by the explosion

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WTVF) – AT&T said the teams made significant progress in restoring service to the region on Sunday morning after an explosion on Friday morning outside an AT&T data center.

The explosion impacted the wide service disruption, reaching just outside the middle of Tennessee.

On Sunday morning, the company said power was restored on four floors of the building and more than 65% of the mobile sites affected by the explosion were restored.

More than a meter of water was pumped out of the building’s basement on Saturday, however, access to some of the lowlands is still limited.

AT&T said on Sunday that the teams will add additional cabling and more generators to supply the building with more power to aid restoration efforts.

“The teams are working to bring additional equipment online and redirect services through other facilities in the region. Although mobility services have been restored in many areas, we still have more than 17 portable cell sites on the air to help communicate, including for restoration teams and rescuers, “said AT&T in an update. “We are bringing in additional resources to support the recovery of wired voice and data services and we hope to have a fleet of 24 additional trailers of disaster recovery equipment in place by the end of the day.”

The company did not provide an exact time when it expects the service to be fully restored. Metro officials said there will be times when customers will lose service as restoration efforts continue, but officials are confident they will be operating at full capacity by the end of Sunday.

Damage to the building is still being assessed.
