Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce was absent due to the birth of a child

Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce told ESPN’s The Undefeated on Tuesday that he hopes to miss the next two games to watch the birth of his second child in Atlanta.

Pierce hopes to miss the Hawks’ road games against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday and Friday. Lloyd and Melissa Pierce also have a daughter, Maya. The third-year Hawks boss may be back on the bench for the Hawks on Sunday when they receive the Denver Nuggets. Pierce flew back to Atlanta on Tuesday after the Hawks’ 123-112 loss to the New York Knicks the night before.

Pierce added that the Hawks’ first year associate coach, Nate McMillan, will be the coach in his absence. McMillan has previously served as head coach for the Seattle SuperSonics (1999-2005), Portland Trail Blazers and Indiana Pacers (2016-20). The former Sonics star ranks 22nd in NBA coach wins, with 661 career wins.
