A 19-year-old teenager from the Atlanta area was arrested on Thursday by Gwinnett County police and was charged with stealing nearly $ 1 million from a Kroger supermarket.
Police said Tre Brown spent two weeks creating more than 40 false statements to make more than $ 980,000 while working on Steve Reynold Blvd. Kroger between December and January, according to a statement.
Returns ranged from $ 75 to over $ 87,000 for non-existent items and were placed on several credit cards, the detectives said. Company officials noticed the transactions and contacted the police.
Other investigations have shown that Brown appears to have used the money to buy clothes, weapons, shoes and two cars, police said. Before his arrest, police said Brown destroyed one of the cars.
A large sum of money was returned after Brown’s arrest, but the amount is unknown, according to police. Brown was accused of theft.
No lawyer was immediately listed for Brown.
