At the buzzer: Indiana 67, Iowa 65 – Inside the Hall

Quick thoughts about the 67-65 victory over Iowa:

How did this happen: Things were bleak early for Indiana. Iowa made his first three 3 points and led 17-4 by the 13:09 mark in the first half. It looked like the Hawkeyes could command the Hoosiers alongside Branch McCracken Court. Indiana, however, had an answer. And he was fed mainly by his youth. Jordan Geromino, Anthony Leal and Khristian Lander gave the Hoosiers good minutes and with Luka Garza on the bench with two fouls, IU made his move. After Iowa led 31-24 with 2:44 to play before the break in a Joe Wieskamp layup, Indiana scored the last nine points before the break to secure a 33-31 lead.

This impulse, however, would be short-lived. Archie Miller returned with his starters to start the second half. When Miller brought Geronimo, Leal and Lander back at the 15:43 mark, Indiana was down 38-35. The Hoosiers returned with one at the 11:33 mark in a 3-point basket from Trey Galloway, but Iowa pushed back to six after a pair of free throws and 3 points from Jordan Bohannon. The Hoosiers responded again when Trayce Jackson-Davis tied the game at 53 with a 3 point play at the 6:06 mark. Indiana regained the lead on a Armaan Franklin tray with 5:05 to play.

After Indiana failed three of the four free throws, Iowa opened a 3-point lead in two consecutive buckets from Garza. IU responded with Rob Phinisee’s 3 points with 1:39 to play. Garza shared a pair of free throws in possession that followed to give Iowa a 62-61 lead. IU then responded with a bucket of Race Thompson to regain the lead with 55.8 seconds to play. The Hoosiers then stopped and Jackson-Davis was fouled and hit both free throws to give IU a 3 point advantage. Bohannon responded with 3 points with 27 seconds to play. This set the stage for Armaan Franklin, who hit a long 2 with 1.6 seconds to play and lead IU to his tenth victory.

Featured Performer: Trayce Jackson-Davis (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Race Thompson (15 points, six rebounds) were great for the Hoosiers. The pair agreed to shoot 12 of 22 from the field. Thompson added four blocked shots.

Stands that stand out: Indiana scored 17 points in 11 Iowa turns. The Hoosiers also held Iowa with 0.96 points for possession, a low of the season for the Hawkeyes.
