At the bell: Indiana 82, Minnesota 72 – Inside the Hall

Quick thoughts about an 82-72 victory over Minnesota:

How did this happen: Despite a better-than-normal start, Indiana’s defense left a lot to be desired in the first half of Wednesday night. The Hoosiers awarded 1.15 points for possession, while Minnesota guards advanced from the perimeter with ease. Despite throwing only 44.8 percent of the field, the Gophers entered the range with a 37-35 lead.

After Minnesota led 46-43 at the 15:27 mark in the second half, Indiana went on a 9-0 run to grab a 52-46 lead at the 13:25 mark. But, as always, the Hoosiers failed to capitalize on their momentum. Indiana didn’t score in the next 4:08 and the six point cushion evaporated quickly. Minnesota regained the lead in a dunk from Brandon Johnson with 8:35 to play, but Indiana returned to draw at 55 in a dunk Trayce Jackson-Davis.

Outside the media time limit for children under eight, Trey Galloway lost a point of 3, but the Hoosiers connected from the perimeter in the next two possessions to push the lead back to six in 61-55. Indiana opened his biggest game advantage at 65-57 on a Rob Phinisee tray with 4:40 to play and then pushed to 10 on a pair of Trayce Jackson-Davis free throws with just under four to play. Minnesota never got closer than xx the rest of the way, as the Hoosiers recorded their 12th win of the season and their seventh in the Big Ten game.

Featured Performer: It was another monstrous performance for Trayce Jackson-Davis, who recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jackson-Davis hit 8 out of 14 on the field.

Stands that stand out: Despite committing 17 laps, Indiana’s attack had a strong performance (1.21 points for possession) thanks to a strong kicking performance. The Hoosiers made 57.6% of their 2s and 58.3% of their 3s.
