At least 9 shots, 2 killed in separate shootings in Virginia Beach

Several people are in custody, the police said.

At least nine people are shot and two are dead after separate shootings in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Friday night.

Authorities received a call for several shots fired just before 11 pm local time, Friday. The crime scene had at least eight victims, according to Virginia Beach police chief Paul Neudigate.

In a second location, there was a separate crime scene, where a suspect got involved with a police officer, which resulted in a shootout involving the police. The suspect is dead, officials said.

In another crime scene, the police said there was also a deceased bullet victim, who had no connection with the original shooting or the police shooting.

In addition, a police officer was hit by a vehicle and went to the hospital with non-fatal injuries, the police said. It is not clear whether this police officer was involved in the second crime scene.

Several people are in custody, but their involvement in any of the shootings is unclear, according to authorities.

Virginia Beach police initially confirmed that there was a shooting on the waterfront with “multiple victims”.

“VBPD is investigating a shootout involving several victims with possible fatal injuries. Large police presence on the waterfront between 17th and 22nd of St. Please avoid the area at this time,” the department tweeted.

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital confirms to ABC News that it is treating six patients with gunshot wounds. Their conditions were not immediately available.
