At least 15 killed in southern California semitruck accident

At least 15 people died and about 12 others were taken to hospitals after an accident in Southern California on Tuesday, officials said.

The accident occurred in Imperial, California, north of the Mexican border.

Judy Cruz, managing director of the emergency department at El Centro Regional Medical Center, said during a news conference that a 27-passenger vehicle crashed into a gravel-filled semi-trailer.

At least 14 people were pronounced dead at the scene and another person died in the hospital. The conditions of the wounded were not disclosed.

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
